Youth bursaries
The Gatineau gliding club (GGC) offers financial bursaries to youth members to support their development as pilots. A student glider pilot can begin instruction at age 14 and can get their glider pilot license at the age of 16.
There are two sources to the bursaries. The first is an amount provided by the Soaring Association of Canada (SAC) of $500 for direct flying costs. The second part is the memorial fund established to remember Adam Sneyd, a young member of the Gatineau Gliding Clubwho lost his life to cancer. The Sneyd fund has been seeded through private donations. The fund aims to provide an additional $500 bursary. There are up to five SAC bursaries given per year. There could be one or more Sneyd given a year.
