August flyweek
Friday August 1 – Sunday August 10
2025
The Gatineau Gliding Club hosts several fly weeks during the season. These weeks are the center of the club community. They are an opportunity to celebrate the summer, our mutual love of flying, relaxed time with each other and create lifelong memories with our families.
Traditionally, the club will be open for flying operations the entire first week of July and First week of August.
Mentorship and lectures
For pilots, it is a great time to work on new skills, different cross-country triangles, and badge achievements. Each Flyweek is different, but typical activities can include:
- Regular flight training with some emphasis on cross country (e.g. planning of flights, thermaling, transitions, field selection, out landing, and retrieval)
- Graduating some Bronze Badge pilots
- Progressing Silver legs and badges
- Possible Gold and Diamond distance flights
- Daily weather briefings
- Evening presentations and discussions about soaring
- Daily debriefs and flight analysis
Family & friends
Members, their families and children generally plan to be at the club / campground during these weeks. Activities and impromptu socials happen. The 25 meter pool is at the perfect swimming temperature.
Families with children are encouraged to take maximum benefit of the facilities at Pendleton. We have a 400 acre facility for kids to explore, cycling paths, a sports field, a large pool, tennis set-up, a clubhouse for bad weather with a library of books and movies, and of course, video software (condor) to fly a glider!
